What You Need To Workout At Home
Before COVID, my workout routine includes 2 times per week of Orange Theory, one dance per week & other random exercises like walk, tennis or bike ridding here and there.
Since Pandemic started, my only form of regular workout is twice a week zoom workout. Luckily you don’t need too much devices or equipments to have an effective workout. The kind of workout I do with my trainer is HITT which stands for High-Intensity Interval Training. All you need is a mat, some rubber bands, a couple of dumbbells and that is it.
Yoga mat doesn’t sound like a complex product to make. But I have to say there is still a huge difference between a good mat vs a bad one. After buying 10 different mats over all these years, I have finally found my favorite and I am sharing my top 3 below so you don’t have to experience bad mats like I did:
My trainer likes to incorporate some weight into the HITT workout. Participants can choose their desired weight dumbbell base on their fitness level. I was never into weight training but I do know that in order to better tune my muscles on my arm, belly and leg, incorporating some weights is only going to help me speed up the process. I finally got myself two sets of dumbbells after using my wine or water bottles as my “weights”. Now, I have a set of 5lbs and a set of 8lbs dumbbells and I think soon I will need a set of 10lbs.
Here are some of the dumbbells options that I like. The fifth and the sixth ones are particularly interesting because they are adjustable and has 3 different weight settings incorporated into one dumbbell.
My trainer’s HITT workout format is like 10mins warm up, followed by 3 circuits of a combination of movements, each circuit focuses on different muscles. After that, we usually have a very intense finisher for us to empty our tank.
On top of having weights, you also need something for resistance. Hence, the rubber bands. Here are some professional rubber bands that my trainer recommended:
Last thing you need for working out at home is some comfortable and supportive activewear. Nowadays there are SO MANY options for activewear. In this post, I have featured 3 set of my recent favorite activewears. The white top and sky blue set is by ASTORIA ACTIVEWEAR, the black sport bra and beige legging set, top is by NIKE and bottom is by Alo Yoga; the orange set is by Alo Yoga as well.
The Astoria set is my recent favorite workout outfit. The top has very interesting back and it comes with a bra insert. The legging is the MOST comfortable legging I have ever worn. The material feels like your own skin and it is super easy to move around in. Further more, it really enhances your butt if you know what I am talking about. Because I like this brand so much, I have reached out to them and joined their ambassador program. Now, if you’re interested in buying their activewear , make sure click here and use the Style Right exclusive discount code - “STYLERIGHT15OFF” for 15% off.
Pandemic has making our life difficult in terms of going out to meet people or travel, now let’s not let it take away our health too. Regardless where we are, what happens in this world, we can choose to continue to do the things we love creatively and exercise within the limitation to keep ourselves strong and healthy.
To be frank, joining the zoom live workout on every Tuesday and Friday nowadays have become the most exciting thing that I am looking forward to every week. I truly believe it also has helped me tremendously to unwind and “relax” my constantly-running mind and give my body a stimulation. It also helps me justify eating treats from time to time because I feel like I have earned it. lol….
What have been keeping you stay fit and maintain your sanity these days? Please do share here, I would love to hear!
