I Got My Lips Filled
All my life, I have noticed that my upper lip is very thin compared to my lower lip and felt that having thin or uneven lips is not beautiful. I patched up my insecurities by over-lining them to give the illusion that both of my lips not only are the same size, but full and lush. Even with this insecurity, I always told myself that I would never get any fillers, injections, or plastic surgery because it was “unnatural.” However, ever since I started blogging, I realized that being “natural” doesn’t matter and being “unnatural” isn’t bad, but gaining confidence and happiness through this kind of procedure is more important than being “natural”. So I decided to give it a try and let me tell you, it was NOT what I was expecting.
I searched on google to see the best clinics here in Portland and found Cosmetiq Medicine, which is a clinic that provides an array of different beauty treatments and procedures including botox, lip and cheek fillings, micro-needling, PRP facelifts, thread lifts, and more. They had great reviews so I booked a consultation appointment right away. I sat down with Dr. Salti and discussed the process.
She was extremely knowledgeable, experienced and reassuring. However, I left the meeting feeling even more scared as the experience became more real and subconsciously kept delaying booking a procedure appointment due to my fear. I have never in my life altered or even thought about altering my body in this way and the thought of it was scary! Knowing that lip fillers are not permanent as well as having a curious nature helped to decide “YES” to lip fillings as a once-in-a-lifetime experience and I finally set the date. In my heart however, I knew that I would not like them and would never do them again… The day finally came.
I was shaking when I entered the clinic and wanted to run the other direction but couldn’t because I wanted to give you guys a first look at the experience. So I sat in the chair and prayed that I didn’t just make the biggest mistake of my life. First, Dr. Salti applied the numbing cream and then injected numbing around my lips. Once I couldn’t feel them anymore, she began the lip filling process.
The filler she used is called Juvederm Ultra XC. It is an injectable gel, which is a colorless hyaluronic acid gel that contains a small quantity of local anesthetic (lidocaine) and is injected into facial tissue to smooth wrinkles and folds or into your lips to add plumpness. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring sugar found in the human body which dissolves over time once injected. The effect should last about anywhere between 6 months to a year depending on how your body processes it.
Dr. Salti at the time seemed to know what she was doing. She filled and constructed my upper-lip as well as a new Cupid’s Bow and routinely insured that it was to my liking and that it was the correct proportions and alignment to my face. The process was nearly painless without much bleeding and took about 30 minutes from start to finish.
I finally heard the words, “We are done!” and was asked if I wanted to see my (temporary) new lips. As the mirror inched towards me, I could feel my heart beating faster and faster, until the mirror and I came face to face. My heart stopped for a couple of seconds……
I surprised at what has been done to my lip. I was amazed how plump and full my upper lip looked and I absolutely LOVED it!!! It was much better than I expected. Not only was the experience pleasant and mostly painless, but the staff, as well as Dr. Salti, were very professional, reassuring, and patient. All of my previous concerns and worries faded away as I was taking in what I think were the lips of my dreams! After the procedure there was some swelling and minor bruising which was managed with some icing and lipstick to cover the redness. My bruises went away after 3 days. It took about 2 weeks until my lips finally settled into their final shape and size. I can say now that I am fully happy with the final results. They look full, natural, even and I am fascinated to realize how a little change like this immediately makes me feel beautiful, confident and SEXY!!
Though initially I knew that I would only get this procedure once to try, I now am much more open to getting it done again, all thanks to the great experience and results I got. It makes me so happy to know that this kind of procedure is available for people who suffer from insecurities when it comes to their lips, just like I did. Cosmetic surgery was a topic I was always against, but I am now more open to it as long as it is safe, for the right reasons, and with moderation. Thank you Dr. Salti for your great technique, magical and beautifying touch. You will perhaps see me again in the near future.
