Dreaming In Cappadocia
Everyone in my friends circle knows that the thought of waking up any time before 10am is my worse nightmare, let alone 4:30am! This is what I had to do to experience the magic of Cappadocia, which is best known for its amazing landscape views, filled with hundreds of colorful hot air balloons. Looking back, if I had to, I would wake up even earlier to experience this once in a lifetime event.
There are many places one can go to watch or ride the hot air balloons. When I looked online to see where the best place to stay in Cappadocia is, the Museum Hotel stood out to me. The thought of staying inside a living and breathing museum, especially curated to provide a luxurious and yet cultural experience intrigued me and so I booked right away. I am so glad that I decided to stay there.
Other than the spectacular views, this hotel offered amazing dining experiences. My first meal at Lil’a (in-house restaurant) was at early afternoon time. I sat outside of the restaurant, which has the amazing view of the valley. The surprising turtle visit and two beautiful peacocks playing on the lower deck garden really kept me entertained, which made me feel like I’m in paradise. The dinner experience at the same restaurant was very special as well. This time I sat inside. The lighting was soft and romantic. It did make me feel home-sick wishing my husband was there with me. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the food very much even though many of them were not familiar to me at all. The staff was very professional and attentive. Last but not the least, the breakfast buffet was an eye-opening experience. It is probably the best breakfast buffet I have ever had. Filled with organic, locally grown, and homemade food, I found myself going back and forth to the buffet line trying to eat whatever crossed my path. Even that, I felt like I still haven’t tired everything. What made the experience even better is the very friendly and responsive staff.
Another one of my favorite parts about this hotel is their attention to detail. Walking into my hotel room - Castle Cave for the first time felt like walking into a treasure chest inside a wonderful cave. Every corner of the room was ornamented with beautiful vintage art and the rooms are carved straight into the mountains of Cappadocia, making it so intimate and unique. Not only that, but I was greeted with homemade wine and a beautiful handwritten note card thanking me for staying with them. But all I could think of was, “Thank YOU Museum Hotel for giving me the experience of a lifetime!”
I can’t really describe the feelings I had, sitting peacefully at sunrise, with the sounds of birds, watching the the hot air balloons rise up to the sky.... It was a feeling of bliss I have not had in a very long time. Life has a way of turning us into machines with all of the responsibilities we have to attend to. We easily forget about how beautiful life can be and forget to take full advantage of it. Cappadocia reminded me to savor every minute.
I am so grateful for this opportunity, one I thought I would never get to experience. Being at Cappadocia was something from my wildest dreams. Thank you to the Museum Hotel, the staff, Cappadocia, and the people of Turkey for leaving me to dream bigger and better. It was an amazing experience I will cherish for the rest of my life. I can’t wait to go back soon and show you guys more of this wonderful place!
