2023 NYFW | Asia Fashion Collection

When invitations came in for the Feb season NYFW. I just couldn’t turn it down because it has been too long!!! The last time I attended NYFW was in 2019!

I went to a total of 8 runway shows across 4 days, which I would say is about a healthy amount of shows to manage and enjoy. Today, I would like to talk about the Asia Fashion Collection runway show.

There were a total of five designers revealed their collections during the runway show. All of the brands and designers are from Asian countries.

  • désir by Jun Nakamura / Japan

  • ASATO by Asato Kitamura /US/Japan

  • FromWhere by Lee Young Eun /South Korea

  • CHIAHUNG SU by Chia Hung Su /Taiwan

  • SAIKA by Saika Sekita /Japan

The above three looks are my favorites from Désir collection. I love how the fabric is full of random painting strokes and I also love how his whole collection shows the free spirit and freedom of expression!

The above three looks are my favorites by ASATO by Asato Kitamura. I love all the color and material contrast and certainly those mask pieces especially the white masterpiece, such a statement!

The above two pieces are my favorite from FromWhere by Lee Young Eun. I love the practicality of the design as well as the subtle details. I can imagine myself in almost any of his pieces shown in the collection. I know Runway collections are supposed to be bold and statement pieces, but I also have huge respect for designers that bring more practical design pieces onto the runway by adding subtle but effective details to make them runway worthy! I would say “Job well done!” to Lee Young Eun.

The above two are my favorites from Taiwanese Designer - chiahungsu I definitely love how she explores the poignant beauty of impermanence and imperfection with reclaimed materials, ancestral techniques, and sustainable practices from E. Asia. It is not easy to create or own a sustainable fashion brand in this world. I have every respect to designers that are environmentally conscious.

The above is my favorite from SAIKA by Saika Sekita. The whole collection is flowy and light-hearted, but I do think the team could work on improving the props for the models.

I also enjoyed meeting a few people at the show

To be honest, this might not be the best runway show I had ever been to but I absolutely loved Vantan, and PARCO CO., LTD sponsored and produced this incubation project -Asia Fashion Collection. It really provided a stage for new Asia fashion designers to showcase their work to a much broader audience at an international level. As an Asian fashion blogger/influencer, it was really an honor to see Asian fashion designers marked their steps on the New York Fashion Week!
