MFW 2019 | Merrige by eLSi

When I started turning blogging into a business in 2017, I set one goal for myself: to be invited to the Big Four Fashion Weeks within 3 years. In 2018 & 2019, I went to New York Fashion Week twice and once to London Fashion Week. In September, I was invited to both Milan & Paris Fashion Week. I don’t know how to describe the excitement and sense of accomplishment when I received my invitations. I was beyond thrilled that I have over-achieved one of my main goals for my blogging career.

Set that aside, I had to choose between going to Milan or Paris because they were practically at the same time period. I ended up choosing Milan just because Italy was already part of my European trip plan. The first show I went to was Merrige by eLsi, which was at Palazzo Visconti di Modrone. It is a beautiful palace built by a Spanish nobleman, Count Bolagnos (hence the other name by which he is known. Bolagnos Palace), in the 18th century. In the nineteenth century, by the Visconti di Modrone, who transformed the facade and interior in rococo style. I would say it was perhaps the most beautiful fashion show venue I’ve ever been to.

This show was an exclusive collaboration of two fashion brands: Merrige & eLsi. Merrige is a Chinese luxury lingerie brand. eLsi is a famous luxury Italian womenswear since 2004. Merrige selected Elsi Fashion to create its Spring Summer 2020 Haute Couture Collection.

First thing I noticed when I arrived at the venue was those people that were there waiting to enter the show were all very chilled and relaxed. Most of them made efforts to their looks but nothing too weird or crazy. There also weren’t as many photographers taking street shots as what I normally experience in NYFW. Check in was super easy and relaxing. All I had to do was to show them the email that contains my seat information.

The show started with a group ballet performance. Though it was hard to find the direct linkage between ballet and this particular show, I do appreciate the effort of the production team trying to deliver something extra, especially at this venue that is so cultural and beautiful.

Now, shall we dive into some of the my favorite pieces from this show?

I love the exaggerated volumes in the above left outfit. The oriental feel of the fabric with its fitted design really amplifies the beauty of a woman’s body. The bell sleeves added perfect amount of contrast to make this design more unique and exciting.

The below piece is my absolute favorite among all! It took my breath away the moment I saw it. It is luxurious and yet sensitive, glamorous and yet seductive. It highlights a woman’s body without being too vulgar. I would have bought this piece right there if it was for sale!

Do you see me wowing in above photo standing and holding a yellow case phone taking video… (Watching runway show for fashion bloggers is not necessary relaxing……lol! )

As you can see, exaggerated volumes and embroidered tulle ribbon, sprinkled with oriental touches, are the key elements of this collection. And they were absolutely stunning! In the last photo above, the Merrige by eLSi show ended with two designers coming out by holding hands down the runway to thunderous applause. To say it was an incredible show is an understatement and I can not wait for next season!
