5 Books You Will Enjoy Reading While Staying Home

I am not going to lie. I was never the kind of person that finishes a big book in a couple of days or the kind of person that consistently reads. If i were given a choice of either staying home to read a book or going out to dance tango, I would choose the latter in the blink of an eye.

Although there are so many things to complain about the Covid-19 situation, I do LOVE the fact I finally found the time and have the right mindset to sit and read books from my to-read book pile.

I thought I would share with you guys what are my top 5 books from all the ones I have read since the quarantine started. Maybe it can help you to kill some of these unexpected “free” time at home.

  1. BECOMING

I like Becoming because Michelle shares her personal story in such a open and honest fashion. Becoming is the deeply personal reckoning of a woman of soul and substance who has steadily defied expectations—and whose story inspires us to do the same.

2. THE THOUGHTFUL DRESSER

“For centuries, an interest in clothes has been dismissed as the trivial pursuit of vain, empty-headed women. Yet, clothes matter, whether you are interested in fashion or not, because how we choose to dress defines who we are. How we look and what we wear tells a story.” This is a constant topic of conversation between me and others who wonder why I put so much effort in how I dress and why I quit my well-developed career in tech to pursue a career as a fashion blogger with the hope of influencing how women dress themselves.

3. OPTION B
This book was referred by a friend of mine after I lost my dad in 2012. The author, Sheryl Sandberg, lost her forty-eight years-old husband, Dave Goldberg, suddenly. In this book, she shared her personal story of how she was in denial, how she thought her children and herself will never feel pure joy again, till then she learns how to live with Option B while Option A isn’t in place.

Option B illuminates how to help others in crisis, develop compassion for ourselves, raise strong children, and create resilient families, communities, and workplaces. Many of these lessons can be applied to everyday struggles, allowing us to brave whatever lies ahead. “

4. ALGORITHMS TO LIVE BY : THE COMPUTER SCIENCE OF HUMAN DECISIONS

This book is the thickest book among all I have read so far. As scary as it looks, it offers a lot of fascinating insights from how computer algorithms can be applied to our everyday lives, helping to solve common decision-making problems and illuminate the workings of the human mind. And yes, these algorithms can also help with making real estate investment decisions as well, which was the reason why I was interested in reading this book.

5. THE LIVES OF 50 FASHION LEGENDS

Compare to the previous 4 books, this one is an easy , fun & light-hearted read. I bought this book for the purpose of self-educating since I am sort of in the fashion industry but i thought might be a fun read for those of you who are into fashion but not necessary in the fashion industry. I really enjoyed the stories of the world’s greatest designers, across the decades; learned how they adapted to trends and adversities, and discovered how the fashion industry has changed over the years.

As for what I wore in this post, this suit set is by Jonathan Simkhai, one of my top 5 favorite designers currently. This particular set is sold out, sadly, but I have listed a few of my other favorite suit sets here for you:

Here are some of my current favorite logo T-shirt:

The world we are living in is now turning into such a crazy and chaotic mess. As we soaking in and wondering why US is the ONLY country that exceeded 1 Million confirmed coronavirus cases, wondering why even in 2020, black people are still fighting for basic human right…I found everything is so disturbing that I am feeling furious and worried at same time. The only thing that has seemed to be able to calm me down is to immerse myself into reading!

And, that was the trigger of this post. I hope you have found my post helpful! I would love to know if any of you end up getting any of these books. If you have already read some of these books, please comment to share your thoughts!

Love you all and stay safe!
