Video: A Chinese Encounter In The Wild

Though the Corona Virus has impacted the globe in a negative way, today I want to focus on something positive that came out of it for me personally. I know right? You must think, “This girl is crazy! What good could come out of COVID?!” Well, nothing good can come out of it, but indirectly, I was able to foster a few friendships that would not have bloomed otherwise. Bernice was one of them.

After just a few exchanges and DMs, we quickly grew fond of each other and the work we do, bonded over our Chinese heritage and decided we wanted to take it a step further by collaborating on a project. Before telling you about this video that we made together, I want to tell you more about her.

Bernice Ye is a Seattle-based comedian who was once a clueless immigrant like me and has now become an “entitled American”, in her words. In a world that is more divided than ever, Bernice uses comedy and personal stories to bridge cultures and empower immigrants through humor, grace, and dignity. She has performed in Crazy Woke Asians, Northwest Women’s Comedy Festival, San Diego Comedy Festival as well as shows all over Washington, Oregon, and California. During quarantine, she has taken her comedy to the virtual realm so you can catch her no matter where you are. Follow her on Instagram @bernicecomedy to find out more!

For this collaboration, Bernice and I wanted to merge together our favorite things: Comedy and Fashion, while also highlighting the difficulties and stereotypes a Chinese woman might face moving to the west. We feel that this video is truly the essence of who we are individually, as well as together, while we give you a glimpse into what it is like to be Remanda and Bernice in the wild.

We hope you enjoy watching this fun little film project as much as we enjoyed working on it. Please like, share, and subscribe to my Youtube Channel to show your support and comment below on your thoughts about the video and your experiences moving to or living in other countries!
