Metallic Dress With Oversized Blazer

Lately, I have been watching quite a lot of sci-fi movies. After all, what better time than now to indulge ourselves in the visionary world above and beyond. At the top of my lists are Barbarella, The Fifth Element and Ex-machina. I enjoyed watching the fierce and female characters over and over, and their extremely eye-catching and cutting edge costumes offered me countless styling inspirations.

As we entered into the seventh week of the shelter in place, I started to feel a little bit distressed being confined at home. But then my optimistic mind kept reminding me just a few months ago, we were still excited about Elon Musk’s plan of sending people to the Mars. When it’s time to travel to outer space in the future, what are you going to wear? Here’s my take, inspired by the badass sci-fi heroines:

To style a space look, metallics without a doubt is the fundamental element I have in mind. I bought this metallic dress from a vintage shop last year. Its asymmetric design and the shine of the material makes a perfect futuristic fashion statement. I paired it with my Saint Laurent’s Kate belt bag and a pair of silver lace-up heeled sandals by Stella Mccartney. Belt bags have been around for a few seasons now. I love this Saint Laurent’s bag’s modern and sleek look. It’s practical, making my hands free when I’m out about with my boys. It also adds an interesting shape and defines the waist when I wear it over a blazer or a coat.

Here are some of my favorite metallic dresses:

Here in this post I’m wearing the belt bag with my recent favorite Tibi linen blazer. I was on the hunt for a perfect blazer. When I finally saw this one, I knew immediately this was the one. I like it slightly oversized, yet with some tailoring around the waist. The material is very breathable and lightweight, perfect for the unpredictable spring weather.

To complete this futuristic look, I’m wearing space-inspired makeup. On top of my usual contour, I also did extensive highlighting. I purposely did a double black eyeliner to create a bit more different and futurist look and feel to match this outfit.

It has been a while since our last adventure. How about we journey forth into the wider world with fashion and imagination so we can have a brief moment into the future?
