Home Organizing - My Recent Favorite Activity

About 3 months ago, I wrote a post - Conora Era Productivity that talks about how to be productive while staying home. At the time, it was only about 1 month in the current pandemic. People were not used to working at home and struggled to stay focused, which birthed my post.

Now, it has been more than 4 months since the pandemic started. The situation in the US has not gotten any better, which is very frustrating and disappointing! However, I could choose to let the frustration take over of me or I could choose to find a way to stay focused and continue to produce meaningful work. Of course, I have chosen the latter and home organizing has been my recent favorite activity. It not only has helped me stay focused and being productive, but also calmed me down and brought me to a state of peace and balance.

My home organization started with our linen closet. I have a huge linen closet downstairs , where there are 5 long shelves to store linens. But there was no divider or storage bin to separate or organize linens. I basically just stack things in there with somewhat systems. I found this foldable fabric trapezoid organizer boxes on Amazon, which I now use to keep each bed’s bedding set in one box. Now, it is easier for everyone in the house including my cleaning lady to know where to find the sets for which beds. Not only that, it also saves the shelf space for more items and it is visually very appealing! I couldn’t be happier with the after-look!

With the success of linen closet re-organizing, I gained joy and momentum for more. The next project I moved on was the under-the-kitchen-sink cabinet. It was not a mess there before but it was definitely hard to view or access things in the back. A couple weeks ago I found this two tiered sliding metal organizer and after carefully measuring the space, I purchased it with confidence it would work perfectly.

The narrow top rack successfully avoids bumping into the big garbage disposal when being pulled in-and-out. The wider bottom rack allows more storage for big bottles and cleaning tools. After installing (which btw is super easy. If I can do it, you can do it too!). I was thrilled with how organized everything looks and more importantly, I now can easily access everything without bending my knee on the floor! If your cabinet is wide enough, I would suggest installing two. I also give you a couple of other options below just in case your cabinet is small.

The third project I tackled on was to organize all the water bottles in kitchen cabinet. Because the shelf height, some tall water bottles can’t stand. I have to have them lay flat. Therefore, the shelf space where I keep all of my water bottles ends up with some bottles up and some bottle laying flat. I searched on amazon for a better organization solution and I found following options which I love. I ended up getting the first one from the below items and I am happy with it because I want to maximize the vertical space of my shelf.

My 4th project was also for kitchen. Given how much time I spend in kitchen, it is not a bad idea to get it more organized and looking neat! In this project, I organized all of my tupperware’s lids inside a big pull-out drawer. The drawer I use to keep all of my tupperwares is always quite messy with all different sizes of tupperwares with different kinds and sizes of lids. Sometimes the lids are all stacked on top of each other which makes it very hard to dig for the right lid. I was so happy when I saw below solutions on amazon. I ended up getting the first one on below list because it is enough to organize most of my lids and it doesn’t take too much of my drawer’s space.

That concludes all the home organization projects I want to share today. However, I am confident this meditative home organizing endeavor will continue. Please comment to let me know if you would like to see more!

Those completed projects have make my house even neater and organized. Since we are all spending so much time at home, I think it is a smart idea to invest in home organization so you are more comfortable at home. Now every time I access those areas I organized or even just looking at them, it brings a big smile to my face! Last but not least, the journey of organizing has made me think and taken my mind off negativities that are happening around US. All in all, a DOUBLE win thing to do as we continue STAYING HOME! (Please stay home as much as you can and WEAR MASKS when you absolutely have to go out, so we can end this era soon!)
