Positano Must-Knows
A couple weeks ago, I went to Milan Fashion Week. Everyone who attends any fashion week knows that these kinds of events can be very exhausting as you have to run from show to show, figure out outfits, spend hours doing makeup and hair, look your best all the time, and do photo shoots. I knew this would happen, which is why I decided to plan a little vacation for some much needed down time in Positano.
I had so many preconceptions of what being in Positano would be like based on all of the photos, videos, and blog posts that I had seen online. I expected an experience that is grand, luxurious, and unique. Sadly, my first impression of Positano was disappointing. The center was filled with tourists and it was hard to get around due to the one-way traffic and the narrow roads.
Luckily, the days that followed did change my mind and I left Positano feeling really happy. The day after I arrived, I had a swimsuit shoot in the morning. Being out at sunrise, with the calm sea, warm water, and having the beach all to myself, that is the moment I got to experience the beauty of this place and fell in love with it.
In Positano, there are three main things you can do - relax, swim, and eat. But, there is still things you need to know ahead of time that can help you get better experiences. This is why I decided to make a short guide of my favorite things to do for all of you in case you will visit Positano one day.
Restaurants
Next 2
It is on the way down to the beach. It has a big open air courtyard, very popular spot for dining. Make sure to book reservation ahead of time. Food is amazing!! Good taste and presentation!
Hotel Maricanto
Hotel Maricanto is a private spot with amazing views, good food, and nice service. Perfect for a romantic dinner. Reservations are required so make sure you call ahead of time.
Chez Black
Chez Black is the staple restaurant of Positano and is always full as its flooded with tourists since many celebrities have come to eat there in the past.
La Pergola
La Pregola was one of my favorites and is the best spot to eat right on the beach. It has amazing seafood and pasta options. This was the only restaurant I ate there twice during my 4-day stay.
Hotel Palazzo Murat
Hotel Palazzo Murat is beautiful because of its big floral court yard and great staff. I loved eating here because of the live music and lively ambiance.
Bars
Francos Bar
Francos Bar is great for getting a drink while enjoying spectacular views. If you like to party, this is the place to be!
Sirenuse Hotel Champagne Bar
With it’s iconic views, Sirenuse Hotel’s Champagne Bar is the perfect place to go have a drink, unwind, and enjoy a beautiful summer night out in Positano.
L’Ancora Hotel
With it’s beautiful interior decor and tasty drink list, this is a must for you, your date, or a girls night out!
Activities
The Beach
A must do is going to the beach for some sun bathing and swimming with the beautiful Positano town as a backdrop. I would recommend to go to a private beach because it is less congested and you would also want a comfortable lounge chair with an umbrella if you plan to stay there for a long period of time. It’s 25 euros per person for first row and 20 euros for second rows onwards. And you pay 5 euros per person for a towel.
Private Boat Rides
Another thing that I highly recommend is taking a private boat ride around the city. This costs around 100 - 500 euros depending on the kind of boat you rent.
The Franco Senesi Fine Art Gallery
It takes a lot for me to be impressed by art and even more for me to want to pay a leg and an arm for it. This gallery was one of the most memorable ones I have ever been to. I was ready to buy every piece in there. Make sure to stop by for some jaw dropping work!
To sum it all up, never judge a book by it’s cover - or in this case, a town! While my first view of Positano wasn’t all that great, as I walked deeper into its streets, interacted with its friendly residents, and ate some of it’s amazing food, I would highly recommend it! I can’t wait to go back soon.
